Scorpions glow brilliantly under UV light — making after-dark blacklight hunts one of the most effective ways to locate and eliminate them. We go where they hide, when they're most active, so you don't have to worry about finding one in your shoe.

Venomous — Arizona Bark Scorpion Risk

The Arizona Bark Scorpion is the most venomous scorpion in North America. During the day, scorpions hide in cracks, crevices, under debris, and inside walls. At night, they emerge to hunt — and under a UV blacklight, they glow a brilliant blue-green, making them easy to find and treat precisely where they live.

The Science Behind the Hunt

Scorpions have a unique property: their exoskeletons contain compounds that fluoresce under ultraviolet light, causing them to glow a vivid blue-green color in the dark. This makes UV blacklight one of the most reliable ways to locate scorpions that would otherwise be completely invisible to the naked eye during a routine inspection.

Standard daytime treatments address scorpions on the move, but blacklight hunts target them in their resting and harborage spots — the places they return to every day. Treating these locations directly is far more effective than broadcast spraying alone, and dramatically reduces the active population around your home.

This service is particularly effective for Arizona Bark Scorpions, which are prone to hiding in wall crevices, under roofline gaps, in block walls, and inside attic spaces — spots that daytime inspections commonly miss.

Where We Look — And Treat

  • Block wall crevices and mortar gaps — a favorite scorpion harborage in Arizona yards
  • Under roof tiles, eave gaps, and roofline intersections where bark scorpions climb
  • Around window and door frames, utility penetrations, and plumbing access points
  • Beneath ground cover, landscape rock, and debris piled against the structure
  • Inside attic spaces and wall voids accessible from the exterior
  • Around pool equipment, outdoor furniture, and storage areas

What a Blacklight Treatment Visit Looks Like

1

After-Dark Arrival

We schedule blacklight services in the evening after dusk, when scorpions are most active and visible. Our technicians arrive equipped with professional UV blacklights and appropriate treatment materials.

2

Systematic Sweep of the Property

We walk the entire perimeter of your home and yard under UV light — scanning walls, block fences, landscaping, eaves, and any structure on the property. Every scorpion found is logged by location so we can identify pressure zones.

3

Targeted Treatment

Scorpions found are treated directly, and harborage areas are treated with residual products labeled for scorpion control. This targeted approach means product is applied where scorpions actually live, not just broadcast across the property.

4

Report & Recommendations

After the hunt, we let you know how many scorpions were found, which areas had the highest concentration, and what habitat modifications (if any) could reduce future pressure. We'll recommend whether follow-up visits are warranted.

Best Combined With Your Regular Plan

Blacklight treatments are most effective when paired with your regular Zona service. Your plan's residual barrier treatments reduce scorpion populations around the structure, while the blacklight hunt targets harborage areas directly. Together, they create a comprehensive scorpion suppression strategy.

Safe for Pets & Family

All products used during blacklight treatments are selected for safety around children and pets. We'll advise on any re-entry intervals for treated areas, which are typically short. You won't need to evacuate — just stay clear of treated exterior areas while they dry.

Blacklight Treatment FAQ

How often should I do a blacklight treatment?
For homes with active scorpion pressure, we typically recommend 1–2 blacklight visits per season (spring through fall) in addition to your regular plan. After the initial population is knocked down, quarterly or seasonal visits are usually sufficient to maintain control.
Will blacklight treatments completely eliminate scorpions?
No treatment — from any company — can guarantee 100% elimination of scorpions. They're a natural part of the Arizona desert and migrate from surrounding areas. What blacklight treatments do is dramatically reduce the active population on your property and in your home's entry points, making encounters far less likely.
Do I need to be home during the service?
Not necessarily. Since most of the work is exterior, we can conduct the sweep and treatment without you being present as long as we have access to your yard. We'll send you a summary of what was found afterward.
Is this available as a standalone service or only as an add-on?
Both. You can book blacklight treatments as a standalone service or add them to any existing Zona plan. Pairing with a regular plan gives you better ongoing protection, but we're happy to help however works best for your situation.
