Rodent
Exclusion

Trapping and baiting only solves half the problem. If the entry points stay open, more rodents will find their way in. Our exclusion service permanently seals every gap, crack, and opening — so once they're out, they stay out.

Health Risk — Disease & Property Damage

Roof rats and Norway rats can squeeze through a gap the size of a quarter. Mice need only a hole the size of a dime. Arizona's warm climate and desert landscaping create ideal nesting conditions, and once rodents establish a route into your home, they'll use it repeatedly — and recruit more.

Why Bait Alone Isn't Enough

Most people deal with a rodent problem by setting traps or placing bait stations. That works — temporarily. But if the entry points into your home remain open, you're playing an endless game of catch-up. A new family of roof rats can establish in your attic within weeks of the last one being removed.

Exclusion is the permanent solution. By systematically locating and sealing every possible entry point, we eliminate the problem at its source. It's the approach that actually ends the cycle, rather than just managing it indefinitely.

Arizona's construction style — with tile roofs, stucco exteriors, and dense landscaping that often grows against structures — creates dozens of potential rodent entry points. Roof rats in particular are excellent climbers and regularly access homes through rooflines, eaves, and utility penetrations near the rooftop.

Signs You Have a Rodent Entry Problem

  • Scratching, scurrying, or gnawing sounds in the attic, walls, or ceiling at night
  • Droppings along baseboards, in cabinets, or near food storage areas
  • Gnaw marks on wiring, wood, insulation, or food packaging
  • Grease marks or dark rub trails along walls where rodents repeatedly travel
  • Nesting material (shredded insulation, paper, fabric) found in attic or wall cavities
  • Visible gaps, holes, or damage around rooflines, vents, pipes, or the foundation

How Zona's Exclusion Service Works

1

Full Property Inspection

We perform a thorough inspection of your home's exterior, roofline, eaves, foundation, garage, and any outbuildings. We probe every potential entry point — gaps in stucco, open utility penetrations, damaged vents, gaps under doors, and more. You'll receive a clear summary of what we find.

2

Active Population Removal

Before sealing, we address any active rodents inside using tamper-resistant bait stations or snap traps depending on the situation. We never seal a structure with active rodents inside — doing so creates more problems than it solves.

3

Permanent Entry Point Sealing

We seal all identified entry points using professional-grade materials — galvanized hardware cloth, copper mesh, foam sealant, and sheet metal flashing — chosen based on the gap type and location. Unlike caulk-only approaches, our materials are chew-resistant and built to last.

4

Follow-Up & Monitoring

We schedule a follow-up visit to confirm all activity has ceased, check bait stations, and verify that sealed entry points are holding. We'll also advise on landscape or habitat modifications that can reduce future rodent pressure around your property.

Materials That Actually Hold

Hardware store foam and caulk won't stop a determined rodent — they can gnaw through soft materials in minutes. Our exclusion materials are selected specifically for rodent resistance: galvanized steel mesh, copper wool, and heavy-gauge flashing that hold up in Arizona's heat and maintain their seal year after year.

We Pair It With Your Regular Service

Exclusion works best as part of an ongoing protection plan. We can pair your exclusion service with any Zona residential plan — keeping exterior bait stations monitored and catching any new rodent pressure before it ever gets inside.

Rodent Exclusion FAQ

How long does an exclusion service take?
Most residential exclusion jobs are completed in one visit of 2–4 hours, depending on home size and the number of entry points found. We'll give you an accurate time estimate after our inspection.
Do you guarantee that rodents won't come back?
We guarantee our work. If rodents re-enter through a point we sealed within the warranty period, we'll return and address it at no additional charge. Our follow-up visit also lets us confirm the seal is holding before closing the job.
What if I already have rodents in the attic?
We handle active infestations first — using bait stations or traps — before doing any sealing. Sealing an active infestation in place is a mistake that many inexperienced companies make. We make sure the population is addressed before we close off the entry points.
Will this work for both rats and mice?
Yes. The same exclusion principles apply to both, though mice require even more thorough sealing since they can fit through smaller openings. We assess the specific rodent type present and adjust our approach accordingly.
Is attic clean-up included?
Attic restoration and insulation replacement is a separate service. We can discuss options and referrals depending on the extent of contamination found during inspection.
